Flashes of Brilliance is presented by The Neurological Foundation as a bi-annual showcase. We are so excited to bring this vibrant collection of images to life once again, to show how beautiful the human brain truly is.

The Neurological Foundation for the last 50 years has been one of neurological research’s biggest cheerleaders; we find the research conducted on the human brain exquisite and gorgeous. Even when it may tell a darker story, it is still a tale of progress, discovery and hope.

Flashes of Brilliance is celebrating the art of neuroscience. Art and neuroscience have been intertwined for centuries. Early researchers, curious about the human brain, would draw what they saw. These renderings, although science-based, were also artistic, and would play a crucial role in helping future researchers explore and understand our most vital and mysterious organ – the brain.

Although research concepts, theories and practices have evolved over time, the need to visualise them has remained and persisted. Our understanding of the brain has advanced and so too has the way we view this progression. For some it is just a cell, an organ, a small sliver of science but for others, these images of evolution, are art.
